I love watching Martial Arts techniques. I love the beauty in the movements and i love cool throws and takedowns. Then I want to learn that cool technique then a voice in my head to tells me. " Aaron that aint gonna work on the street. "
Why Cause the aderaline dump makes complex movements difficult even if you have done them a million times in Practice. The other guy not giving you chance line him up for nice fancy takedown
The techniques I practice are
1) Front Kick
2) Front Knees
3) Skin Kick
4) Low roundhouse kick
5) Axe hand strike
6) Palm strikes
7) Cupped Hand strikes
8) Hammer strikes
These 8 techniques with aggression and force form a powerful back bone to many combative systems and would serve you well. Many of these simple techniques have being pressure tested in real violent
Learn to hit with all your being imagine the worst situation you and your family could be in. Straight shots use a drop step and hit with powerful forward force exploding using all your body. Practice, Practice, Practice.
Simple with power and aggression works well
Michael, Im learning were always learning. You can be the most superfit well trained guy in the world and still be undone by the unpredictability of a random street attacks and all the many variables that can work against. Keep vigilant and never underestimate any situation Boxing is great, i just know a cupped hand smash or palm strike is what tends to come out of me under duress. I think if one can end things on their terms in punching range thats great. If not things usually go to stand up grappling which in the street is an ugly game cause the types who are street predators are the types who wont think twice about trying to bite your noseoff! Ugly but how it often is!
Good points Aaron. No expert but I had my fare share off scraps. Yeah Your hands can take a pounding. I find all this stuff interesting and think it is definetly something to keep in mind for self protection. Thanks for posting.
Michael, Truth is most fights are in the 6 to 18 inch range any expert whos had alot of street fights or been in high conflict job will verify this. Punching/ hand striking range. My limited experiance fits also. Boxers have powerful tools for this but are the hands adapted for hitting like this with out gloves, if you are planinng on using boxing punchs you need to condition the hands for it. For street combat.
I'm more into boxing myself but this definetly sounds sensible. Fred Hutch has a book for low kicks that I have on my kindle, can't remember the name. I always told myself," I'm not attempting to kick anyone above the waist". This book fits my kicking needs.
