Sevens are the old bodybuilding protocol of seven half reps, seven reps from half to full contraction and then seven full reps. This weekend I went camping with my best friend from work and my son-in-law. I was perfectly happy chilling out at the campsite while they took the boat to go fishing. Between reading articles in the Founder's Bible, I'd hike or jump in the lake for a swim. I also spent time with various DVR/DSR type exercises.
One of the things I was experimenting with was sevens using various DVR/DSR movements. It seems to really work well in getting a pump; especially with the DVR style movements. So this something I am going to integrate for awhile in my workouts. Not all exercises are suited for this; but many are. I am also going to do this with push-ups and do 3's with pull-ups.
Some questions came in recently about DVR only exercise. If you cannot do anything else do it! It is low impact and can be effective within your genetic framework. The key is developing a strong mind to body concetration and focus.
The hows have to do with tensing the muscles as hard as you can and then fighting it through a range of motion. Relax the muscle as you retract.

Hi Michael - just a few workouts has made a difference in the size of the muscles. The pump has stayed if that makes sense. We'll see how it goes.
Thank you Gary. I am firmly believer in self-resistance as a supportive therapy.
Ok time for a plug "keeping fit for the life you live"
Great post Greg.
Bob prayers for strength and complete and speedy healing.
What we do today for health and fitness will affect our health and fitness in the days and years to come
excellent!
I'd like to hear Your experience with these. I never heard of them referred to as 7's. I thought they were called 21's. I remember doing these for biceps. It keeps the muscle under tension longer. I had forgot about these, Thanks for the reminder. I think they would work pretty good with a decent amount of exercises.
Great words, Greg! I believe that this training helps me to keep a good physique under chemo and fight my cancer.
Thanks Bob - the bottom line is - and I began to realize this a few years ago when I was doing my EMT training and ride time - is that the human body is not meant to last forever. We are destructible and our bodies have a shelf life. Ultimately, beyond any other thing, this is what caused my split with John Peterson a few years ago. You have to educate people in the right way about exercise. with reasonable expectations.
That is why Visual Resistance Training, Dynamic Visual Resistance, Focused Muscular Tension or whatever you want to call it so valuable. It allows you to strengthen the body in a low impact manner that can keep you vigorous and healthy through your later years. I did several convalescent transports with geriatric patients. These people had hip, shoulder, and back disabilities as well as coronary disease. Simple self-resistance and tension based exercise could have done wonders to improve their quality of life.
Now I am also back to DVR/VTR with some changes in performance. Effective and safe training to live better and longer.
