Over the last month or so, I've occasionally checked in on the Transformetrics forum for the first time in some years. I saw something John Peterson had posted recently about Bruce Lee that wasn't entirely accurate. It is a commonly acknowledged fact that Bruce Lee was taking some sort of low dosage steroid compound in a "health drink" he mixed towards the end of his life. That is not to say that he was a heavy steroid abuser. In the early seventies, drug use in sport and for appearance was still a fairly secretive thing and wasn't illegal at the time.
John and I in years past had many conversations about Bruce Lee, among many other things. John was the one who told me that Lee lived the excess life of a rock star. We also discussed this health concoction that Lee took. In Lee's last and greatest movie, Enter the Dragon, he looked very different from his previous movies. Isometrics had a part in his appearance, but more than likely so did the steroid he was taking.
I personally don't think it tarnishes Lee's legacy in any way that he may have taken a steroid as part of his overall training regime. This tell all book written by Linda Lee's ex-husband is just an attempt to cash in on Lee's legacy and will flop. However, tell the truth. I see nothing wrong in admitting that a low dosage steroid may have had something to do with Lee's last movie appearance.
Also, I'm not trying to jump on the anti-John Peterson train. I don't have a horse in this race. I'd like to see John succeed with his new book and I am sure when it comes out it will be beneficial to many people. I do think he'd have more credibility if he wouldn't gloss over inconvenient truths.
Some folks take steroids in various lung disease medications (ie Asthma among the diseases) ; but the level is low.
Thanks for commenting and corroborating. Sorry about the text issues. John knows better about Lee and about the potential effects of different types of steroids.
Sorry about the way I'm posting but it's the only way I can post right now from my phone. If you notice where I wrote 160l160l160l160lbs like now it doubles and triplettriples my words. Annoying
Some people think just because someone takes steroids automatically they're going to get big. There's a lot of variables like diet, genetics, age, ECT...
I knew someone who used small doses of steroids. He was 160160lbs and lifted heavy weights. His size never changed.
Growing up I probably watched everyone of Bruce's movies. I know some think because someone is small that there is no way they could be taking steroids.
