I changed my upper body workout around this morning with more tension, more self resistance and more deep breathing. There was a lot of focus on various Charles Atlas, Swoboda and Sinkram exercises. I still did six sets of pushups and six sets of pullups, but I spaced them through the tension and self resistance exercises.
Why? Well the deep breathing and tension generated by self-resistance and or tension alone give me a feeling of energy and well being. LOL - I am an older guy and the feeling of energy and well-being is a plus.
Some years back I read an article about Terrence Hill from the Spagetti Western era with movies like Trinity, Boot Hill and My Name is Nobody. It said Hill spent two hours every morning doing yoga. If you've never seen any of Terrence Hill's movies, he was a well built, coordinated guy who did most of his own stunts and did a lot of physical comedy.
According to John Peterson, he thought Hill did the Charles Atlas exercises daily. Whether that is true or not is a moot point. He did do some sort of tension/breathing/gymnastic exercise daily and it was responsible for his incredible coordination. Here is a link to his website if you are interested. https://en.terencehill.com/index.php in his late seventies, Hill was still making movies.
I've tried some yoga in the past but never with a teacher. I kind of felt they were scams. But I could be wrong. I did a program by John Hinds from Lifeline and DDP Yoga. Also have a program called lumberjack yoga that I use from time to time when I feel like it.
