Yeah it's a very long article too. I've been reading bits and pieces. Alot of the stuff I didn't know about. I think one of the first protien powders I tried was Weider's. LOL, I did try raw eggs after watching the Rocky movie. From what I understand from the article steriods have been around since the 30's. On the internet I've read alot of crazy things about the bodybuilding community.
That is a very comprehensive article. Raw milk, eggs and meat? No thanks. I don't even go organic with the eggs after I got some bad free range eggs. I think Vince Gironda's dietary advice is still probably the best though; albeit some of his recommendations I found impossible. Taking 15-30 liver tablets a day, and the raw eggs in half and half didn't last long. The raw eggs in particular would go straight through me and I'd be heading to the bathroom with the squirts immediately after consuming that mess. I laugh at all the stuff I did when I was young.
The bottom line is that athletes got into steroids and other chemical enhancements. That the is other side of bodybuilding no one wants to discuss. I've seen guys stay muscular on pizza and beer. They had good metabolisms and their body reacted favorably to drugs. That is not to say that the top professionals weren't strict in their diets, supplementation and training - Frank Zane definitely was - but it is what it is. Bodbuilding and weight training have a long, symbiotic relationship to drugs. That's nothing to ashamed or defensive of. It is just the truth. I could care less if someone uses enhancement drugs - just be truthful about it.
