Those Solgar tablets you linked to look small, so if swallowing them isn't a problem, I say save yourself some misery.
The tablets I used to take were from Universal and were so big, swallowing them wasn't an option. The things we do in the name of health and physique.
The tablets I've been taking don't really smell. I see no reason to chew them. I can't remember exactly but I watch a show on vitamins and way to see if you would digest them. I don't know if it is true but they put different tablets in vinegar. Depending on how long it took them to dissolve was about how they would in your stomach. Don't know how true that is. I'll look for a video later on if I can find one.
Greg, do you remember "Protein from the Sea" (powdered fish and seaweed)? That might have been before you time.
When my father was young, he read an advertisement in Hoffman's magazine and became convinced this was the key to muscle in might. Money was tight, but he saved up and bought a cane. He said he knew he was in trouble when he opened the lid.
In his era, you didn't waste anything, so he forced himself to finish all of it. He is a better man than me.
Yep, did the same. Ugggh - thank you Mike Brown.
Like Greg, I used to take dessicated liver tabs for the supposed strength and endurance benefits (Thanks Gironda), but personally didn't really notice anything per se. Still, they are a great source of B12 and folate, and are probably worth consuming for that benefit alone.
I chewed them, since that was how you were "supposed" to take them. They smelled and tasted like dog food.
Years before this, however, I had read several books by an eccentric weight lifter by the name of Michael Brown. He recommended and sold powdered dessicated Arginine beef liver, which was supposed to be superior. Like the young impressionable fool I was, I bought some. The taste was unbelievably potent. I tried to consume it every which way (Brown recommended to mix it in pineapple juice--YUCK!), but in the end I just couldn't hack it.
However, because it was so bad, chewing the tablets was no longer a problem. They almost tasted like candy in comparison.
Wow that's alot. I'm sticking with three. Lol, I know alot of people don't like liver. No one in my house likes the smell Lol. So instead of hearing the complaints about me cooking liver and onions I'll take the health benefits from these.
Well, you have to remember the bro science from back in the day. The recommendation was 30 a day. I never did more than half of that. If I remember rtght, dessicated liver was a good source of B vitamins, and that might explain the increase in energy.
I have been taking them for a week now. I have noticed more energy and that they are helping with recover. LOL, I don't think I would want to chew these. Do you remember the dosage you took? I'm going by the recommendation on the bottle which is 3 a day.
Well, just remember, different supplements, just like different training has varied effects on people. My oh my were liver tablets nasty tasting and I used to chew them up to make sure they digested. I took them thinking they'd help with endurance after reading about the study with the swimming rats. I guess I would have drowned with the first batch of rats. As far as muscularity, I didn't see anything there different either. But, other people, Vince Gironda comes to mind, swore by them. But, give them a fair trial over a period of time. Your body may respond well to them.
