I believe that ancient Greece and Roman statues would be the best models for naturals.
Interesting take. But, I think a lot of people get discouraged easily. It is good to hold ideals. That was the point of all those Greek statues from days of yore. You still have to be discerning. Photographic manipulations, lighting and skilled camera work make a difference. Performance enhancing drugs make a difference. And last but most important, genetics make a difference. I admire the work and genes it takes to build a large muscular body, or a fit muscular body, or an athletic achievement, but everyone doesn't have that and that is why you have to dose your enthusiasm with the reality of what you can personally achieve.
On a recent Ric's corner, Ric was downplaying the use of PED's in bodybuilding. In the comments section, no one was having it. Whereas I like and learn from Ric Drasin, he can be wrong. And, I think that where many of us have had anger in the past was over being lied to about what could be achieved through natural bodybuilding and steroid and growth hormone assisted athletes insisting they were natural.
It is not just bodybuilding. I read an editorial not too long ago from an NFL insider who was claiming the NFL drug tests, no one uses drugs in the NFL and it was elite genetics that made an NFL player, not drugs. I certainly believe the part about genetics, but I also know PED's are the edge in every sport now; not just bodybuilding and to deny that it plays a part in the NFL is very hypocritical.
So have ideals, but look at them realistically in comparing what you can do.
