Recently Sally Fields has come out in the "Me Too" movement and a new book, accusing her stepfather Jock Mahoney of sexually molesting her as a child/teen. A lot of years have gone by to bring out something like that and to wait until after the man is long dead and can't defend himself is even more suspect. It could be true, but I doubt it. For many years Fields must have had a relationship with her former stepfather, because he certainly appeared in enough of her movies with Burt Reynolds.
Regardless, at this point in time, what does it matter? Mahoney was an ace stuntman and athlete who had a parallel acting career. Most of us wouldn't even know who he was if it wasn't for John Peterson writing about him. And to be brutally honest, towards the end of his life, Mahoney let himself go physically. You can still see him playing bit parts in eighties TV shows like the "Fall Guy."
Pedophilia is nothing to dismiss offhand. It destroys lives. Being a father, mentor or teacher is a trust that should never be violated. On the other hand there were many decades that Sally Fields could have come out with her allegations. False allegations also destroys lives. Why wait until now to come forward? She is trying to sell a book for one thing. And at 70, her career as an actress is not exactly booming. It is kind of like the cocaine addiction tell all books that became a rage in the late eighties and early nineties from washed up celebrities.
I worked in Law Enforcement in Violent Felonies, and took an Educational Leave for Grad School in Southern California, my buddy was a Lawyer at Paramount Studios; he wanted me to work at Paramount as a handler and thought my background was perfect for it; you take care of stars and make sure everything is ok and they stay out of trouble; plus I could also guard them. I didn't take it, and now realize it paid much better. I did attend a few Hollywood Parties with him.
I am with Greg on this one! Greg I am praying for your wife, God bless you both and the family.
i survive florence.............i agree with greg most hollywood people are phoneys and if was true i doubt it too, anything for publishity.personally i despise the hollywood crowd
You mean the part about Linda Lovelace's comments on Mahoney's libido? I definitely agree that it was inappropriate. One thing I do want to add though - false claims and bogus claims also discredit people who actually have suffered real predatory sexual abuse. My wife as a small child and later as a teenager had suffered through horrific abuse. Many of her health issues today stem from the trauma of this abuse. She's even talked in front of conferences on this subject, with comments made to her by healthcare professionals who are amazed she is still alive. She also tends to be skeptical of Field's claims. My contention is that if true, why did she still have a relationship with her stepfather.
I would have to say I don't totally agree. I would say in that day and age it probably was hard to come out with something like this. Depends on someone's situation on what affect it would have on their life by coming out and saying this happen. Coming out with something like this is not easy because of what it could do to someone's life either family or work wise and the way people would look at You. I would say the way John talked about this is totally disgusting.
