There are several methods to become younger and live longer. The Five Tibetan Rites as outlined in Peter Kelder's book "The Eye of Revelation" and in the "Ancient Secret of the Fountain of Youth" books, then second is "How to Regain Youth and Health with the Nadeau Method" and the third is the Asian method, based on Kung fu. That method is to use the 18 Exercises in Shaolin and the Yi Jin Jing from Shaolin; and some add Baduanjin, 8 Brocades Exercises of Master Li Ch'ing Yuen. I thought about putting this thread in the Health & Nutrition Section but we are talking exercise.
Now I have read The Eye of Revelation and more modern books and done these exercises for a long time, and they seemed to work, but made a mistake and stopped using it! I have read "The Nadeau Method" and know it is used and popular in Canada, in Spa's and in Europe.
Having studied and practiced Kung fu I am aware of the reports of Daoist &Buddhist Masters living beyond normal life times, and Li Ch'ing Yuen was reportedly 250 years old.
Many on this site are senior citizens and this topic might interest you, it interests me.
I bought a book on this topic; entitled "Li Qingyun: Longevity Methods of a 250 Year Old Taoist Immortal" by Stuart Alve Olson. Appears interesting and contains his methods and even the herbs and herbal medications he used.
Update: About 1/4 of The Nadeau Method book is Foot Reflexology! Thought I should update tat.
There is a book called "Secrets of Rejuvenation: Zen Warrior Exercises" by Martin Faulks based on a reported "original version" of the Shaolin Temple Yi Jin Jing that the author learned from a Filipino Master. In Asia some people are convinced the Yi Jin Jing can rejuvenate one!
I have the original 5 Rites book "The Eye of Revelation" and there is one small difference in Exercise 2 Peter Kelder recommends your fingers point slightly inward in exercise 2; and one researcher suggests that position lets you lower your feet over your head much better.
For the Five Tibetan Rites I like the 1985/1989 edition of "Ancient Secret of the Fountain of Youth" 50 pages long and a Blue Cover, I see these for sale quite cheap online in "very good" and "like new".
MichaelS you can use a book, "Secrets of Shaolin Temple Temple Boxing" by Robert W. Smith it has 12 of the Eighteen Exercises and 12 of the Yi Jin Jing (called I Chin Ching in the book) exercises; because Monk Ta Mo is believed to have authored these 12 Yi Jin Jing exercises. There are many other books, videos and dvd's. One book "WuShu! The Chinese Way to Family Health & Fitness" has all the exercises but under other names (such as "Silk Exercises" for Baduanjin and "Farmer's Exercises" for Yi Jin Jing; the 18 Exercises are called the 18 Therapies. PS: WuShu! also as the classic 24 exercise course for Taijiquan plus Taijiquan sword.
My Canadian friend found a new copy (in Canada) of Colette Maher's 1985 book "Rejuvenate with Technique Nadeau Regeneration method" at a bookstore there and it cost me $21 with shipping.
Where could I find out how to do the Shaolin Boxing exercises? Is there a book, DVD, or could You post a video?
MichaelS when I was doing the Five Tibetan Rites I felt stronger, more limber, felt younger and then I made the mistake to leave it behind. Now the Shaolin Boxing exercises always made me feel great, and I look younger then my age according to folks; I suspect as a result. I've not done the Nadeau exercises but my Canadian friend does it and sings it's praise. I've a buddy that added the Five Rites to his Tai Chi Chuan exercise!
What benefits have You noticed from doing this kind of stuff?
I know the book "Ancient Secrets of Fountain of Youth" books carry endorsements by readers aided by that method, and once saw an article online by an expert who noted the 5 exercises are Tibetan Yoga! Plus I did those exercises nearly a year and as noted stupidly stopped. My older friend and his wife have done these 5 exercises for decades, and both devoted to it!
I was introduced to the Nadeau Method by a Canadian friend, plus he told me there was an error in the Michael Russell book; that Nadeau was a "worker" when e suffered a heart attack, he was an Industrialist and owned a Business, a slight historical error otherwise the book is accurate. But it is a method popular in Canada and Europe.
Some Chinese Kung fu experts reportedly lived to 500 years old and older, Li Ch'ing Yuen reportedly was 250 years old, some think he was 197 years old. I've observed both Taoist and Buddhist Kung fu appears very similar, both use meditation, Qigong (Breathing Exercises), and similar exercise methods.
If I had to guess I'd couple the Five Rites exercises with the Buddhist/Taoist exercise methods (with the meditation practice). Will you live 250 years old? I'd guess you will live longer, appear younger then your age and be healthier then normal. PS the Nadeau Method might aide a long healthy life.
PPS the 250 year old man was a herbalist and used those herbs and what he used is known and recorded!
The Chinese Kung fu Masters (both Taoist & Buddhist) use a similar systems, Kung fu exercises, and "Internal Alchemy" ie Meditation and directed thought, and when that was explained to me it struck me that it is a form of self-hypnosis! One source is "Secrets of Shaolin Temple Boxing" and Ta Mo advised Monks to use The 18 exercises daily along with the Yi Jin Jing. I've talked to Taoist and Buddhist Teachers.
I'm interested in reading more.
